Where it came from
The LEGO Ninjago Accessory Set 853871-1 was released in 2019 as a promotional pack designed to complement the expansive Ninjago theme. These blister-packed accessory sets were created to provide builders with additional weaponry and minifigure gear that were not always included in the larger, more complex building sets of the time, allowing for enhanced customization and playability for the core characters.
The inclusion of the flail as a central piece reflects the weapon-focused aesthetic of the Ninjago series, which consistently draws inspiration from historical martial arts weaponry reimagined through a fantasy lens. While the design is standard to the LEGO system of that era, its inclusion in this specific set was intended to offer fans a convenient way to bolster their collection of specialized armaments without needing to purchase an entire construction set.
