Where it came from
The Football Referee was released in 2023 as part of the LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 24, identified by set number 71037-1. This series continued the long-standing tradition of offering unique, individual characters in blind-bag packaging, a format that has remained a cornerstone of the company’s product strategy since its inception in 2010. The referee was included to capture a sense of global sporting culture, representing the universal language of the pitch.
Designed with a classic black-and-white striped torso and printed whistle detail, the figure reflects a minimalist design philosophy meant to evoke the traditional appearance of a match official. The design team focused on providing essential accessories, specifically a red and yellow card set, to emphasize the character's role in gameplay. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by hobbyists and display collectors for its versatility in modular stadium builds and sports-themed dioramas.
