Where it came from
Forbidden Cove, released as set 6264 in 2001, belongs to the short-lived LEGO Islanders subtheme, which was itself a branch of the wider Pirates line. Developed during a period when LEGO was experimenting with more narrative-driven, modular playsets, the set was designed to represent a tropical hideaway, complete with the iconic indigenous-inspired minifigures and decorative elements that characterized the Islanders aesthetic of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The design emphasizes the 'adventure' aspect of the Pirates theme, incorporating a small baseplate, a palm tree, and a hidden compartment mechanism. While the Islanders theme was popular among children for its vibrant colors and distinct aesthetic, it has since become a subject of discussion within the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) community regarding the cultural representation of its themes. The set remains a nostalgic piece for those who collected the classic LEGO pirate-era ships and outposts.
