Where it came from
Francesco Bernoulli was released in 2011 as part of the LEGO Cars 2 product line, which was developed to coincide with the release of the Pixar motion picture. The set, numbered 9478-1, captures the character's distinct Formula One racing aesthetic, reflecting the design choices of the film’s animation team. By translating a complex digital character into the block-based medium, LEGO designers aimed to retain the sleek, aerodynamic profile that distinguishes Bernoulli from his stock car counterparts.
Upon its release, the set was marketed primarily to younger fans of the Cars franchise and LEGO collectors interested in the brand's brief expansion into automotive-themed film tie-ins. The set was produced during a period of high cross-promotional activity between The LEGO Group and Disney-Pixar. While it served as an accessible entry point for children to recreate scenes from the Grand Prix segments of the movie, it has since become a noted item for those documenting the history of LEGO's cinematic collaborations.
