Where it came from
Released in 2018, the LEGO Frog (40279) was designed as a promotional polybag set to celebrate the Lunar New Year, specifically marking the Year of the Dog. While the primary build features a stylized brick-built canine, the set is often colloquially referred to by the inclusion of its distinct small green frog element. This release followed a long-standing tradition of LEGO creating accessible, seasonal builds that cater to international markets, emphasizing simplified assembly techniques and thematic symbolism.
The design of the frog element itself represents a staple component within the LEGO system, appearing across a vast array of themes ranging from City to Castle. In the context of this specific set, it serves as a decorative accent intended to complement the central animal figure. The inclusion of such small animal figures highlights the company's focus on adding character and environmental storytelling to even the most modest promotional offerings, which has led these miniature pieces to become highly prized by builders for their versatility and charm.
