Where it came from
The Gas Pumps set, released under the number 6610-1, arrived in 1980 as part of the Legoland Town series. This collection was designed to provide essential infrastructure for the growing automotive dioramas of the era, reflecting the mid-century aesthetic of roadside refueling stations that were ubiquitous in suburban development. It functioned as a utilitarian accessory pack, intended to enhance playability and realism for larger city-themed builds.
The design is characterized by the simplicity of the early systemic approach, utilizing basic geometric bricks to represent two fuel dispensers and a small attendant booth. While it lacked the intricate detail found in modern modular sets, it was well-received for its functionality and ability to scale seamlessly with the various vehicle models produced during the early 1980s. It stands today as a classic example of the minimalist yet evocative style that defined the golden age of Town-themed expansions.
