Gelu

Released in 2009 as part of the Bionicle line, Gelu represents one of the final waves of figures before the initial retirement of the theme. Designed as a Glatorian, the character originates from the Bara Magna storyline, which shifted the narrative focus away from the long-standing Matoran universe toward a desert-planet setting. The set was created to reflect the rugged, survivalist aesthetic of the Agori and Glatorian cultures, distinguishing it from the biomechanical aesthetic of previous years.

The figure features the distinct build characteristic of the 2009 Glatorian sets, utilizing the specialized limb pieces and ball-joint connections that defined that era of action figures. It was illustrated and rendered with a focus on icy, elemental aesthetics to match the character's role in the frozen northern reaches of Bara Magna. Upon release, the set was noted by collectors for its unique double-bladed weapon accessory and its ability to participate in the 'Life Counter' game system integrated into that year's packaging.
