Where it came from
The LEGO City Grocery Store set, released in 2022, is part of the long-running City theme designed to capture the infrastructure and daily rhythms of a modern urban environment. It was developed to serve as a modular anchor for larger city layouts, incorporating functional elements like a retractable ramp for the included delivery van and an electric vehicle charging station to reflect contemporary societal shifts toward sustainability.
The set design emphasizes playability through accessible interior spaces and the inclusion of multiple minifigures to encourage roleplay. It belongs to the 2022 wave of City sets which focused on everyday community services. Critics and fans noted its value in expanding the play-density of LEGO towns, specifically praising the integration of the LEGO Road Plate system, which allows builders to seamlessly connect the store to other sets within the City ecosystem.
