Where it came from
The LEGO Duplo Health Centre, set number 2688-1, was released in the early 1990s as part of the brand's expanding educational line designed for toddlers. During this era, LEGO sought to introduce more realistic role-playing scenarios to the Duplo range, moving beyond basic building blocks to thematic sets that mimicked adult professions and public services to encourage social development in young children.
The set reflects the classic Duplo design philosophy of the period, emphasizing rounded, chunky plastic components and large-scale figures that are safe for small hands. The visual style focused on primary colors and simplified medical symbols, aiming to demystify clinical environments for children. It was received as a standard, functional tool for preschool environments, aligning with LEGO's long-standing effort to blend play with recognizable real-world infrastructure.
