The Heartlake City Shopping Mall, released under the LEGO Friends theme in 2024, represents the ongoing evolution of the Friends line following its 2023 soft reboot. This set continues the theme's move toward more diverse character representation and modern architectural aesthetics, replacing the original pastel color palettes with a more contemporary, realistic design. It was created to provide a complex build experience that mirrors urban retail environments, featuring interactive elements such as a functional escalator and a photo booth.

Designed by the LEGO Friends creative team, the set focuses on social play and detailed interior vignettes. The design objective was to integrate modern shopping habits—such as kiosks and varied storefronts—into a modular structure that fits seamlessly with other sets in the Heartlake City collection. Upon its release, it was noted by the building community for its technical improvements, particularly the inclusion of a mechanical moving escalator, which represented a significant step up in the mechanical complexity expected within this specific theme.
