Where it came from
Released in 2018 as part of the LEGO Technic line, the Heavy Duty Forklift (set 42079) was designed to offer a complex mechanical building experience for builders aged 9 to 16. It sits within a long tradition of Technic construction vehicles that prioritize functional movement over purely aesthetic display, emphasizing the educational value of LEGO's gear-based engineering systems.
The model features a robust design that simulates realistic hydraulic and steering mechanics, including a two-cylinder engine with moving pistons and a multi-level lifting arm. Upon its release, it was well-received by the hobbyist community for its ability to mimic the structural integrity and operation of industrial machinery, serving as an accessible entry point for those interested in the principles of pneumatics and gear ratios.
