Where it came from
The LEGO Hedgehog set, numbered 40212, was released in 2016 as part of a series of seasonal promotional polybags that highlighted stylized brick-built animals. It was designed to offer a compact, accessible build that utilized standard elements to capture the recognizable silhouette of the forest creature, reflecting the company's interest in expanding their non-licensed portfolio during this period.
The design focuses on an approachable, caricature-like aesthetic, utilizing curved slopes and simple color blocking to define the hedgehog’s spines and snout. Received warmly by collectors who appreciate the creative use of small part counts, the set is often noted for its charm and utility in building larger dioramas, serving as a modest but distinct entry within the wider catalog of promotional LEGO gifts.
