Highway Construction

Released in 1980 as part of the Legoland Town theme, the Highway Construction set 6600-2 represents the utilitarian charm of early LEGO city building. During this era, the company focused on modular, accessible sets that allowed children to construct small-scale roadside scenes, reflecting the burgeoning infrastructure projects of the time. This specific set was designed to capture the essence of public works, providing essential components like a small truck, a barrier, and a worker figure to integrate into larger city layouts.

The design of the set adheres to the classic LEGO aesthetic of the late seventies and early eighties, utilizing a simple primary color palette and minimal pieces to achieve high playability. Its creator sought to emphasize roleplay through the inclusion of a specialized worker minifigure, a standard that had only recently become the hallmark of the Town series. It was well-received by the target audience for its compact footprint and the functional appeal of its construction-themed accessories, remaining a nostalgic staple for long-time collectors of the era.
