Where it came from
Released in 1978, the 1505 House and Car set was part of the early expansion of the LEGO Duplo line, designed specifically for toddlers. At the time, the Duplo brand was establishing its identity as a safer, larger alternative to the standard System bricks, utilizing a two-to-one scale ratio that allowed for physical compatibility between the two ranges. This set was conceived to provide foundational play experiences, focusing on fundamental concepts of construction and creative roleplay through simple, identifiable domestic and automotive shapes.
The design of the set reflects the aesthetic priorities of late 1970s toy development, characterized by primary colors and simplified geometric forms intended to facilitate easier grasping for developing motor skills. As a quintessential entry in the Duplo catalog, it served to introduce the system's modularity to a younger demographic. The set was received as a functional educational tool, reinforcing the long-term design philosophy of the LEGO Group by emphasizing durability and intuitive assembly for early childhood development.
