Where it came from
The 6875 Hovercraft was released in 1990 as part of the short-lived LEGO Model Team sub-theme, a series designed to appeal to older builders by focusing on realistic proportions, complex mechanical functions, and intricate detailing. This specific model represented a departure from standard system sets of the era, prioritizing aesthetic accuracy and a more sophisticated build experience over traditional play features.
The design emphasizes a sleek, aerodynamic profile intended to mimic high-performance sea and land vehicles, utilizing a variety of specialized curved pieces and steering linkages uncommon for the period. Upon its debut, the set was praised by the enthusiast community for its innovative use of Technic elements within a Model Team framework, helping to bridge the gap between simple block construction and advanced engineering-focused building.
