Iron Man & Captain America (2012 Collectors Preview)

The Iron Man & Captain America Collectors Preview set, identified as LCP2012-1, was released in 2012 as a promotional item during the lead-up to the Marvel Cinematic Universe expansion. These minifigures were designed to capture the classic aesthetic of the comic book counterparts, serving as a high-profile introduction to the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes theme. The set was distributed primarily to attendees and industry professionals at major conventions, marking a significant strategic move for LEGO as it sought to secure a permanent foothold in the lucrative superhero licensing market.

The design of these minifigures reflects a meticulous attention to comic-accurate detail, with printed torso and leg pieces intended to showcase the distinct armor of Iron Man and the tactical uniform of Captain America. Because these figures were produced as a limited-edition preview, they have since become touchstones for collectors of the modern era. The set was well-received by the enthusiast community, who saw it as a foundational release that signaled the start of a deep and ongoing collaboration between the toy company and the Marvel brand.
