Jeep

The Jeep, originally designated the Willys MB, emerged from the urgent military requirements of the United States government during the early 1940s. Faced with the necessity for a lightweight, four-wheel-drive reconnaissance vehicle to replace motorcycles and modified passenger cars, the U.S. Army solicited designs from various manufacturers. The final production design was a collaborative effort that leveraged the engineering specifications of the Bantam Car Company, the manufacturing capacity of Willys-Overland, and revisions by Ford to create a vehicle defined by its reliability, ease of repair, and versatility across rugged terrain.

The vehicle's aesthetic was dictated entirely by its utility, featuring a flat-sided body, fold-down windshield, and exposed hinges. This functional minimalism earned it widespread acclaim among Allied forces, who relied on it for transport, communication, and medical evacuation throughout the Second World War. Following the conflict, its reputation for durability facilitated its transition into the civilian market, where it established the blueprint for the modern sport utility vehicle and cemented its status as an iconic piece of American industrial design.
