Released in 2011 as part of the LEGO Hero Factory line, Jetbug 2193-1 represents a mid-series shift in the franchise's design language. The set was conceived as a villain character, specifically a mutated insectoid creature, serving as a secondary antagonist within the Fire Lord sub-theme. Its design utilizes the specialized ball-and-socket building system that defined the Hero Factory aesthetic, allowing for dynamic posing that emphasized the chaotic, predatory nature of the creature.

The model was designed to integrate with the larger Fire Lord figure, reflecting the narrative arc where the villainous organization sought to harvest resources from the planet Quatros. Upon release, the set was noted for its distinct color palette of lime green and trans-orange, which served to contrast against the more uniform metallic tones of the hero figures.
