Where it came from
Julius the Monkey originated as the iconic mascot for the lifestyle brand Paul Frank, created by the designer Paul Frank in the late 1990s. Initially sketched as a simple doodle for a friend, the character became the centerpiece of an expansive accessories line that defined the aesthetic of the early 2000s, characterized by bright colors, mid-century modern sensibilities, and a playful, irreverent charm.
The keychain serves as a quintessential piece of this pop culture phenomenon, distilling the brand's graphic identity into a portable, everyday accessory. It was designed to mirror the character's signature wide-eyed, smiling expression, which resonated with a broad audience and transformed a simple accessory into a recognizable symbol of the brand's whimsical design ethos.
