Where it came from
The La Catrina model, released under the LEGO Ideas banner, serves as a tribute to one of the most enduring symbols of Mexican culture. Originally conceived by political cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada in the early 20th century, the elegant skeleton figure serves as a satirical reminder that wealth and status are fleeting in the face of death. This set celebrates that artistic legacy by translating the intricate aesthetic of the Day of the Dead celebration into a three-dimensional building experience.
The design emphasizes the iconic makeup, floral adornments, and refined attire that have come to define La Catrina globally. Within the LEGO Ideas program, this set was selected for production after garnering significant community support, reflecting a broader movement to increase cultural representation in the company's catalog. Upon its release, it was lauded by enthusiasts for its respectful approach to the source material and its sophisticated display-oriented construction, balancing cultural heritage with the modularity characteristic of the brand.
