Where it came from
Laval's Shield, identified by set number 850614-1, was released as a promotional item tied to the LEGO Legends of Chima theme, which launched in 2013 to replace the outgoing Ninjago line. Designed as a wearable plastic accessory, it served as part of a marketing campaign to immerse younger audiences in the conflict between the animal tribes of the Chima realm, specifically highlighting the protagonist Laval the Lion.
The shield reflects the aesthetic of the Chima franchise, characterized by a blend of fantasy medievalism and futuristic technology. It was intended to mimic the gear worn by the heroic Lion Tribe characters. Because it was distributed primarily as a low-cost or bundled accessory rather than a standard building set, it remains a distinct piece of promotional memorabilia that captured the high-energy, vibrant design ethos prominent in LEGO's early 2010s branding.
