Where it came from
The LEGO Atlantis Magnet Set, released in 2011, served as a functional accessory for the broader Atlantis theme, which debuted in 2010. This set featured three minifigures—a diver, a shark warrior, and a squid warrior—each permanently attached to a molded plastic base containing a magnet. These sets were designed to allow children to display their figures on metallic surfaces, reflecting a period when LEGO frequently repurposed their minifigure character designs into decorative household items.
The design of the minifigures aligns with the high-adventure aesthetic of the Atlantis line, which drew inspiration from exploration narratives and nautical science fiction. The set was produced as part of a series of magnet packs that transitioned from removable figures to glued-in models, a move that prompted significant debate among collectors at the time. Despite the permanence of the attachment, the set remains a notable piece for those documenting the visual evolution of the Atlantis sub-theme.
