Where it came from
The LEGO Ludo Game, set 40198, was released in 2018 as a functional brick-built adaptation of the classic strategy board game. Designed to bridge the gap between creative building and social tabletop play, the set features a colorful, modular board constructed from standard LEGO elements, complete with 16 minifigures functioning as playing pieces. It was marketed as a family-oriented gift item, emphasizing the playability of the system beyond traditional static display models.
The design process focused on utilizing familiar LEGO geometry to replicate the circular and cross-shaped paths characteristic of Ludo. By incorporating custom dice and a central dice roller, the set successfully translates a centuries-old game into the LEGO aesthetic. Upon its release, it was well-received by the community for its novelty and the inclusion of sixteen unique minifigures, which provided collectors with a substantial volume of character components in a single, compact box.
