Where it came from
Released in 2012 as the LEGO Minecraft Micro World, this set marked the first collaboration between the LEGO Group and Mojang. It originated from the LEGO Ideas platform, formerly known as LEGO Cuusoo, where it became the third project in history to reach the required 10,000 supporter threshold. The design was heavily influenced by the modular, pixelated aesthetic of the Minecraft game, utilizing small 1x1 plates and tiles to represent the game's iconic block-based terrain.
The set was designed by LEGO employees based on the fan concept submitted by the Minecraft team themselves, aiming to translate the sandbox experience into a physical, desktop-scale model. It was exceptionally well-received by the gaming community, selling out quickly upon its initial launch. Its success proved the viability of the Minecraft license for LEGO, ultimately paving the way for the massive, long-running retail theme that continues to this day.
