Where it came from
Released in September 2023, the Marvel Studios Series 2 blind-box collection represents a significant shift in LEGO packaging strategy. Transitioning from traditional plastic bags to cardboard boxes, this series was designed to align with the company's sustainability goals. The collection features twelve distinct minifigures derived from Disney+ original series, including characters from WandaVision, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Werewolf by Night, X-Men '97, and Echo, capturing the diverse aesthetic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's streaming expansion.
The character designs were overseen by the LEGO Group's design team, who sought to capture specific screen-accurate details such as textured costumes, dual-molded arms, and complex printed accessories. While the shift to opaque, non-tactile packaging was met with initial criticism from the collecting community due to the difficulty of identifying specific figures, the series was well-received for its high level of detail and the inclusion of niche characters who had not previously appeared as minifigures.
