Where it came from
Lehvak, identified by set number 8564-1, was released in 2002 as part of the Bionicle line, specifically the Bohrok wave. The Bohrok were conceived as a swarm of insectoid mechanical creatures tasked with 'cleaning' the island of Mata Nui, serving as the primary antagonists for that year of the franchise. Their design, characterized by a rounded, gear-operated head and the ability to fold into a ball, was intended to showcase both dynamic play functionality and a distinct visual departure from the previous year's Toa figures.
The set was designed by the Lego Group's internal creative team to emphasize a tactile, action-oriented experience. Each Bohrok featured a unique 'head-butting' function triggered by a rear lever and could store its Krana—a rubbery, organic-looking canister insert—inside its protective visor. Upon its debut, the Bohrok wave was well-received for its playability and cohesive thematic identity, which helped cement Bionicle's transition into a more narrative-driven series within the broader Lego portfolio.
