Where it came from
Lord Farquaad, represented as a LEGO minifigure in the 2024 Dungeons & Dragons collectible series, draws his design directly from the primary antagonist of the 2001 DreamWorks animated film Shrek. The minifigure captures his distinctive red tunic, short stature, and iconic pageboy haircut, translating the film's satirical fairy-tale aesthetic into the familiar LEGO form factor. This release was part of a broader push to integrate iconic pop-culture characters into the modular minifigure format, allowing fans to recreate scenes from the Duloc kingdom.
The design process for this figure focused on balancing the character's exaggerated proportions with the functional constraints of the standard minifigure build. Designers sought to emphasize his pomposity through expressive facial printing and specific accessory choices that reflect his obsession with order and perfection. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by collectors for its attention to detail and its ability to serve as a centerpiece for Shrek-themed displays within larger brick-built collections.
