Where it came from
The LEGO Maersk Sealand Container Ship (10152-1) was released in 2004 as a successor to the original 1650 Maersk Line Container Ship from 1985. It emerged from a long-standing branding partnership between the LEGO Group and the Danish shipping giant Maersk. The set was designed to capture the utilitarian aesthetic of modern maritime logistics, featuring the iconic Maersk blue color scheme and the company's distinctive seven-pointed star logo, which was notably refreshed for this model to reflect the branding of the era.
This set was developed to appeal to both adult collectors and younger enthusiasts of industrial machinery. It features a modular design that allows for the removal of shipping containers from the deck, mimicking real-world port operations. While the set received positive attention for its realistic proportions and inclusion of the Maersk branding, it is perhaps best known today as a classic entry in the series of promotional corporate sets, often serving as a bridge between commercial branding and the creative freedom of the LEGO system.
