Where it came from
Released as part of the Disney Villains collection in 2024, this set celebrates the legacy of two of cinema's most iconic antagonists. The design reflects the distinct visual palettes of Maleficent from the 1959 Sleeping Beauty and Cruella De Vil from the 1961 One Hundred and One Dalmatians, distilling their cinematic silhouettes into a stylized, collectible brick format. The set was created to honor the enduring cultural impact of these characters, bridging a gap for adult fans who appreciate the sophisticated aesthetic of classic animation villains.
The designers behind this set focused on capturing the essence of each character through specific color blocking and signature accessories, such as Maleficent's horned headpiece and Cruella's faux-fur aesthetic. The reception among the collecting community has been generally positive, noted specifically for how the designers adapted complex animated garment designs into the constraints of this building system. It serves as a tribute to the artistry of mid-century Disney design, aimed at display rather than traditional play.
