Marie

The Marie figure was released in 2012 as part of the Lego Duplo Disney Princess collection, specifically appearing in set 2952-1, titled Cinderella's Castle. This figure was designed to represent Marie, one of the kittens from the 1970 Disney animated feature The Aristocats. The design reflects the chunky, simplified aesthetic characteristic of the Duplo line, which is intended for younger children between the ages of two and five. By translating the feline character into a rounded, durable plastic form, Lego aimed to provide a tactile way for toddlers to engage with classic Disney characters during their formative play years.

The broader Disney Princess Duplo series emerged from a partnership between The Lego Group and Disney, intended to leverage established intellectual property to appeal to parents and children who were already familiar with the characters. Marie’s inclusion in a castle-themed set highlights the brand's strategy of combining iconic characters with modular building elements to foster creativity. Because Duplo pieces are larger and easier to manipulate than standard bricks, the figure remains a notable example of how licensed characters are adapted to bridge the gap between simple character-based play and constructive building activities.
