Where it came from
Market Street, released in 2007 as set 10190, holds a significant place in history as the second entry in what would become the long-running Modular Buildings series. It was unique among its peers for being the first set designed by a member of the fan community, Eric Brok, who collaborated with the company after winning a design contest. The intent was to capture the charm of a bustling European urban storefront, featuring a mix of a small shop, a bakery, and residential apartments above.
The design was celebrated for its sophisticated use of parts and its aesthetic departure from standard play-sets, favoring architectural detail and modularity. Because it was an early attempt at this scale, it featured a different construction method compared to later modular buildings, such as the use of Technic bricks for connections rather than the standard tiles used in subsequent releases. Despite its relatively short retail lifespan, it is widely regarded by enthusiasts as a foundational piece that helped establish the modular format.
