Where it came from
Released in 1983 as part of the Lego Duplo thematic line, Mary's House (set 537-2) was designed to introduce toddlers to early role-playing concepts through domestic structure. This era of Duplo focused on creating accessible, chunky plastic environments that allowed young children to mimic the adult world with safe, oversized components that were easy to manipulate and assemble.
The set featured a simple color palette, primarily utilizing primary colors to appeal to the developmental stage of its target audience. It was received as a functional educational tool, reflective of the company's broader push during the 1980s to expand their reach into early childhood developmental play, ensuring a smooth transition from basic block building to more complex narrative-based play.
