Where it came from
The LEGO Max magnet set (852996-1) was released in 2010 as part of a series of promotional items based on the characters from the LEGO Universe massively multiplayer online game. The set features a minifigure of the character Max, the game's protagonist, mounted on a magnet brick, accompanied by a small plastic accessory base. This item was created to celebrate the launch of the game, serving as a physical collectible for players engaging with the virtual world.
The design of the Max minifigure reflects the aesthetic of the LEGO Universe title, characterized by its bright, adventurous color scheme and unique hair piece. LEGO designed these magnet sets to be modular, allowing the minifigure to be detached from the magnet brick, a feature that was standard for sets produced during this period. The set was generally well-received by fans of the game for its accurate representation of the central character and its utility as a display piece for enthusiasts of the short-lived online platform.
