Where it came from
The Micro Motor 9V set, released in 1991, represented a significant technical shift for the brand by miniaturizing power functionality for small-scale builds. Designed to provide a compact, self-contained energy source for motorized movement in sets that previously required larger, external battery boxes, this system aimed to enhance playability without sacrificing the aesthetic integrity of smaller models.
The development of the 9V Micro Motor was rooted in the company's broader push during the early 1990s to integrate sophisticated electronic components into standard construction kits. While the system was eventually phased out in favor of more robust Power Functions, it remains well-regarded by enthusiasts for its unique form factor and the engineering ingenuity required to fit a motor, gear reduction, and battery contact into such a small housing.
