Where it came from
The 1905-1 Mini Building Set, released in 1970, stands as a hallmark of early educational toy design. Produced during a period when the brand was expanding its reach into modular, open-ended play, this set was crafted to encourage spatial reasoning and motor skills. Its simple, primary-colored components reflected a design philosophy rooted in minimalism, aiming to provide children with a flexible platform for creative construction rather than a fixed narrative model.
The set was conceptualized by the internal design team during an era when the company sought to pivot toward versatile, smaller-scale play experiences. As part of a broader push to standardize component quality, the 1905-1 served as a foundational offering that prioritized geometric exploration. Upon its release, it was well-received by parents and educators who valued its durability and the way it stripped back the complexities of modern toys to focus on the essential act of building.
