Where it came from
The Monkey Palace (5009127-1) represents a collaborative venture between the LEGO Group and the board game publisher Asmodee, specifically their studio Bezier Games. Released in 2024, the set was designed to bridge the gap between traditional board game mechanics and the tactile, creative nature of LEGO building. The concept centers on a competitive tile-placement game where players construct a jungle-themed palace, utilizing the bricks as physical elements of the board state rather than mere aesthetic decoration.
The design process focused on ensuring the game remained balanced and replayable while maintaining the standard of quality associated with both brands. It was conceived as a family-oriented experience that rewards spatial planning and structural creativity. Upon its launch, the set was noted for its unique crossover approach, receiving attention for its attempt to revitalize the tabletop gaming market by integrating modular construction directly into gameplay mechanics.
