Where it came from
The Monkie Kid's Team Dronecopter (80023-1) was released in 2021 as part of the Lego Monkie Kid theme, a creative property inspired by the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. This set was designed to capture the high-tech, adventurous spirit of the series, which reimagines the legendary Monkey King lore for a modern audience. The design focuses on a modular aircraft concept, emphasizing playability through interchangeable cargo containers that allow builders to customize the dronecopter’s functionality for various team missions.
The set represents Lego's strategic push to create authentic narratives for the Chinese market while appealing to a global audience. The design team focused on a vibrant color palette and intricate mechanical details to reflect the show’s kinetic animation style. Upon its debut, the set was noted for its unique assembly process and the inclusion of a wide array of minifigures, which helped solidify its position within the broader Monkie Kid collection as a centerpiece for narrative-driven building.
