Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the Lego Monster Hunter line, the Haunted House set (71052) was designed to capture the classic aesthetic of Gothic horror films. The theme was developed to tap into a nostalgic, spooky atmosphere, departing from the typical sci-fi or fantasy motifs prevalent in other Lego lines of the era. The architecture of the house was meticulously detailed to feature a folding design that opens to reveal multiple floors, showcasing the builders' focus on playability and interior storytelling.
The set was conceived by Lego designers to offer a modular experience that balanced intricate exterior masonry with imaginative room interiors. Upon its release, it was well received by the adult collector community for its sophisticated build techniques and the inclusion of unique minifigures, such as the vampire, his bride, and the monster butler. It remains a hallmark of the short-lived Monster Hunter series, representing a high point for modular-style construction in the early 2010s.
