Multi Model Starter Set

Released in 1999, the LEGO Technic Multi Model Starter Set, designated 8022-1, was designed as an entry-level introduction to the complex engineering concepts of the Technic line. During this period, the theme was undergoing a transition in aesthetic, moving toward a more streamlined look while maintaining the functional integrity of pin-and-beam construction. The set was created to demonstrate the core principles of gear ratios and basic structural stability, allowing builders to construct several different models from a single small collection of components.

The design of 8022-1 emphasizes the versatility of the then-standard Technic elements, reflecting the philosophy of creative versatility over predefined final forms. It was well-received by hobbyists and parents alike as a cost-effective, high-utility gateway for children interested in mechanical design. By stripping away non-functional decorative pieces, the set focused on the fundamental building blocks of the Technic system, a design ethos that has remained a hallmark of the theme's starter offerings for decades.
