Nike Dunk

The Nike Dunk was originally introduced in 1985 as a high-performance basketball shoe designed for the collegiate market. Peter Moore, who also contributed to the design of the Air Jordan 1, conceptualized the silhouette to support the rigorous demands of college athletes, utilizing a pivot point on the outsole for enhanced traction and a clean, panel-heavy upper that facilitated team-specific color blocking. The release famously launched as part of the Be True To Your School campaign, which featured colorways tailored to major universities, cementing its early reputation as a fixture of campus culture.

Following its initial run on the hardwood, the Dunk transcended its sporting origins to become a foundational element of skate and streetwear fashion. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, the design was embraced by the burgeoning skateboarding community for its durability and board feel, leading to the eventual formation of the Nike SB line.
