Where it came from
Nuhrii was released in 2004 as part of the Bionicle range, specifically within the Matoran of Metru Nui sub-theme. Designed as a promotional set to coincide with the film Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui, it represents one of the six Matoran inhabitants of the city of Metru Nui. The character design features the distinct aesthetic of the period, utilizing a small-scale construction build that prioritized character articulation and recognizable color schemes over the complex gear functions found in the larger Toa sets of the same year.
The set was conceived by the LEGO design team to flesh out the expanding lore of the Bionicle universe, providing fans with accessible entry points into the story’s secondary cast. Its reception among collectors was primarily driven by its limited availability and its role as a bridge between the core cinematic narratives and the physical toy line. As a representative of the fire-affiliated Matoran, Nuhrii remains a notable example of early 2000s character-focused set design, reflecting the company’s efforts to build a deep, multifaceted narrative world.
