Octan Gas Station

The Octan Gas Station (set 6548-1) was released in 1992 as part of the LEGO Town theme, a staple of the company's catalog that emphasized realistic city infrastructure. It was designed during an era when LEGO sought to expand its functional play sets, focusing on modular vehicles and service-oriented buildings that could easily integrate into a child's sprawling brick city. The set centers on the Octan brand, a fictional energy corporation introduced by LEGO in the early 1990s as a ubiquitous presence in the city skyline, appearing on everything from fuel pumps to racing vehicles.

The design of the 6548-1 set prioritizes simplicity and playability, featuring a basic gas station structure, a car wash mechanism, and a small service car. It reflects the distinct aesthetic of the early 90s LEGO sets, which relied on bold, primary color schemes and integrated baseplates to ground the build. While specific design credits are rarely attributed to individual employees for sets of this era, the Octan branding became a hallmark of the company's internal world-building, later evolving into a meta-fictional element used consistently across decades of themes and even appearing in major feature films.
