Ogel Underwater Base and AT Sub

Released in 2002, the Ogel Underwater Base and AT Sub was a flagship set within the short-lived LEGO Alpha Team: Mission Deep Freeze subtheme. This line marked a departure from the original Alpha Team aesthetic, pivoting toward a high-tech, arctic and deep-sea espionage narrative. The set was designed to showcase Ogel’s villainous presence, featuring a modular underwater laboratory paired with an attack submersible, intended to challenge the protagonists in a cold-environment combat scenario.

The set was conceptualized by the LEGO design team to incorporate diverse building techniques, such as integrated play features and specialized translucent pieces to represent the freezing depths of the mission. While the Alpha Team theme was intended to modernize LEGO’s internal lore, it faced a competitive toy market, leading to its limited production run. Despite this, the set is remembered by enthusiasts for its distinct color palette and the inclusion of the Ogel minifigure, which cemented the character's role as the primary antagonist of the era.
