Where it came from
The LEGO Ideas set 45021-1, known as 'Our Town', was conceptualized as part of a fan-design initiative aimed at celebrating community architecture and nostalgic small-town aesthetics. It represents a shift in LEGO's strategy to incorporate grassroots design submissions that capture specific cultural archetypes, focusing on the charm of a multi-building streetscape that invites detailed play and display.
The set was developed with a design philosophy centered on modular storytelling, allowing builders to rearrange the town structures to create unique configurations. Upon release, it was well-received by the adult collector community for its intricate facade details and color palette, which designers chose to evoke a timeless, inviting atmosphere rather than a specific real-world location.
