Where it came from
Released as part of the Lego Friends theme in 2024, the Pet Accessories Shop set 42650-1 was designed to expand the play potential of Heartlake City. The theme itself was introduced in 2012 to provide a more detailed, character-focused building experience that emphasizes social play, imaginative scenarios, and modular architecture. The design of this specific set draws on the vibrant, pastel-toned aesthetic that has become a hallmark of the Friends line, focusing on creating a charming retail environment centered around the care and companionship of various animal figures.
The development of the Friends sets involves a collaborative process where Lego designers aim to balance intricate, narrative-driven builds with the accessibility required for the younger audience the theme targets. This shop set reflects the design team's commitment to playability, featuring small pet-themed accessories and store displays that allow for roleplay. Since its debut, the set has been received as a complementary addition to the broader Heartlake City collection, appreciated by fans for its focus on pet care and its consistent stylistic alignment with the larger model city.
