Where it came from
Pigsy's Food Truck, released as set 80009-1 in 2020, serves as a cornerstone of the LEGO Monkie Kid theme. Inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, the theme was developed to bring traditional folklore to a new generation through a modern, vibrant aesthetic. The design team created this vehicle to reflect the personality of Pigsy, the iconic chef and protector, combining the utility of a mobile restaurant with the defensive capabilities required for the series' action-oriented narrative.
The truck features a distinct color palette of red and gold, echoing traditional motifs while incorporating industrial, utilitarian design elements suited for an urban, futuristic setting. Illustrators and structural designers collaborated to balance the aesthetic of a functional food stall with a transformation mechanism that reveals hidden weaponry. Upon its release, the set was praised by the building community for its clever storage solutions and the inclusion of exclusive character minifigures that captured the character's whimsical yet heroic nature.
