Where it came from
The Pirate Splash Battle set, identified by number 40710-1, was released by the LEGO Group as part of a promotional campaign celebrating their 25th anniversary of licensed themes. It was specifically designed to capture the whimsy of nautical adventure, echoing the classic aesthetic of the LEGO Pirates line that first debuted in 1989. The set features a compact build of a pirate-themed water ride, intended as a nostalgic nod for long-time collectors who grew up with the original seafaring minifigures and brick-built vessels.
The design team focused on creating a self-contained display piece that incorporates interactive elements, such as a water cannon and a small kraken figure. By distilling the essence of a sprawling theme park attraction into a small-scale model, the designers sought to balance playability with desk-ready display appeal. Since its release, it has been received as a charming addition for enthusiasts of smaller promotional builds, valued primarily for its thematic consistency with the enduring legacy of the pirate sets.
