Where it came from
The LEGO Friends 'Play Day Gift Set' (66773-1) was released as a promotional bundle, a practice common in the mid-2010s to combine multiple existing sets into a single retail package. These bundles were designed to offer consumers higher value by grouping smaller, popular builds from the Friends line, which focused on the lives of five best friends in Heartlake City. By packaging these together, LEGO aimed to lower the barrier to entry for new collectors while clearing inventory of smaller, entry-level sets.
The aesthetic of this collection reflected the bright color palettes and character-driven narratives that defined the Friends theme since its 2012 debut. Designed to emphasize imaginative play, the sets featured within the bundle were crafted by LEGO design teams to encourage roleplay, incorporating modular elements and detailed accessories. Upon its release, the bundle was well-received by parents and young builders for its ease of play and the immediate breadth of the Friends universe it provided in one box.
