Where it came from
The LEGO Playground set, released under the product number 3608 in 1984, emerged during a period when the company was expanding its focus on modular, everyday-life dioramas. It was designed as a standalone town accessory meant to complement the broader Legoland theme, providing a structured play environment that featured iconic park elements such as a slide, a merry-go-round, and various minifigure-scale play structures.
The set is characteristic of the mid-1980s design language, which emphasized bright primary colors and simple, functional geometry. It was received as a quintessential 'Town' expansion, valued by collectors for its inclusion of specialized molded components—such as the yellow slide—that were relatively rare in other sets at the time, helping to flesh out the public spaces within larger LEGO city layouts.
