Where it came from
Released in 2024 as part of the LEGO Icons series, the PlayStation 1 set (72306-1) was designed to serve as a nostalgic tribute to the original 1994 gaming console. Developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the platform, the set captures the specific aesthetic of the grey box that defined a generation of home gaming, including its iconic power and reset buttons, an opening disc tray, and a brick-built controller.
The design process focused on authenticity and interactivity, incorporating hidden details like a miniaturized motherboard that rewards builders during the assembly process. Upon its release, the set was well received by adult fans of LEGO and gaming enthusiasts alike, who appreciated the attention to mechanical detail and the faithful recreation of the console's unique industrial design language.
